Method 03 ยท DTF tRANSFER
Direct-to-film (DTF) is a versatile modern method for decorating textiles. It produces highly detailed, full-colour prints with a soft, flexible finish on a wide range of fabrics, starting from a single piece.
The technology
Direct-to-film (DTF) transfer is a versatile method for decorating modern apparel. A specialized printer applies full-colour CMYK ink and an opaque white layer directly onto a PET carrier film. Hot-melt adhesive powder is then applied and cured, preparing the transfer for heat application. The process requires no screens or printing plates and is suitable for quantities as low as one piece.
During production, the film is positioned on the garment and bonded under heat and pressure. The carrier film is then peeled away to reveal a vibrant, highly detailed print with a soft, flexible finish. DTF is suitable for projects ranging from a single custom T-shirt to large uniform orders, as well as designs ranging from photographs to fine line art.
the process
After a brief cooling period, the carrier film is peeled away to reveal a vivid, highly detailed print bonded to the fabric. The finished transfer is soft, flexible, and ready to wear.
The film is positioned on the garment and applied according to the recommended temperature, time, and pressure settings. The adhesive melts and bonds the design securely to the fabric.
While the ink is still wet, a hot-melt adhesive powder is applied and then heat-cured. Once cured, this thermoplastic layer allows the print to bond securely to the fabric during heat pressing.
A specialized printer applies full-colour CMYK ink to PET film, followed by an opaque white layer that helps the design remain vivid on dark garments.
Your file is colour-managed, separated into CMYK with a white underbase, and arranged on a gang sheet to maximize film usage. This process requires no screens or printing plates.
The use cases
DTF is especially useful when traditional screen printing becomes less practical, including full-colour designs, mixed fabrics, small runs, and tight deadlines. Here are some of the projects we produce most often.
DTF can reproduce photographs, gradients, and fine illustrations with high detail and the durability required for decorated apparel.
best for
Memorial pieces, fan merchandise, and art collaborations
Because DTF requires no screens, it is practical for quantities ranging from a single custom shirt to larger orders. It works well for events, gifts, samples, and on-demand programs.
best for
Custom orders, samples, prototypes, and gifts
DTF can be applied to cotton, polyester, blends, nylon, fleece, and many performance fabrics. It is a practical choice when one collection includes several materials.
best for
Sportswear, uniforms, and mixed-apparel collections
Multiple logos and designs can be arranged on a gang sheet and transferred to the appropriate placement on each garment. This supports efficient production for events, launches, and promotional campaigns.
best for
Event apparel, corporate merchandise, and promotional kits
The efficiency
Multiple designs and sizes can share the same roll of film. Our team arranges each design efficiently to maximize material use, reduce waste, and manage per-piece costs on small production runs.
This approach allows us to produce highly detailed prints at a cost that scales with quantity while combining multiple designs in one production batch.

Why dtf
The most versatile
method we offer.
CMYK printing with a white underbase reproduces gradients, photographs, and fine details in full colour within a single production process.
When properly applied and cared for, DTF transfers retain their appearance through repeated washing, with good resistance to cracking, fading, and peeling.
DTF is suitable for quantities ranging from one custom piece to large orders, without the screen setup required for silkscreen printing.
DTF can be applied to cotton, polyester, blends, nylon, fleece, denim, and many performance fabrics in light or dark colours.
Because no screens are required, production can begin soon after your artwork is approved. Most standard orders ship within 5โ7 business days.
The white underbase helps colours remain bright and saturated on black, navy, and other dark garments.
